Fur, Fin and Feathers, Inc. (F.F.F.) had it's earliest beginning as an eating club. Three local men, Jim Steiner, Nort Jackson and Harry Barenbrugge invited a group of close friends to enjoy a dinner of game and fish which they themselves had caught.

The event was such a success that a year later they gave a similar dinner to which more of their friends were invited. To make possible a continuation of this yearly event, an organization was set up and chartered as Fur, Fin and Feathers, Inc. John Woodfull was elected first President in 1946.

In the early years, before construction of our clubhouse, annual meetings were traditionally held at the Coldbrook Club on Maple Avenue, and the annual game dinners were held variously at the Mark Twain Hotel, the Elmira Country Club adn Pierce's. The first annual dinner held at our own clubhouse occurred on Saturday, March 14th, 1970. Dues that year were $26.50.

The growth of Fur Fin and Feathers was so rapid that although attempts were made to limit the membership, first at 100, then at 250, neither attempt was quite successful. The By-Laws, as revised in 1988, reclassified membership categories so that now Regular Membership, Life Membership, and Honorary Membership combined shall not exceed 250 members. Club Membership determined that total membership of 250 about equals the capacity of the Club facilities. In that total membership during 1988 exceeded 250, the rule was doppted whereby for each two vacancies occurring, only one new member would be elected until the total membership was reduced to 250. Regular Memebership is further limited to 190, and Live &  Honerary combined limited to 60, for a grand total of 250.

Eating and cooking is still a very important part of F.F.F. activities, but in the years of the Club's existence, members have shown an increasing interest in conservation. many man-hours are spent in planning and carrying out a broad variety of conservations programs that include the work of many committees.
